Is it normal that small things trigger big emotion and thought changes?

It's a bit different than the title explains. In order to properly describe, I'll provide an example.

Say I'm chatting a guy I like on facebook, and they do not respond, I will instantly assume they hate me and have a deep rooted feeling inside my stomach. I will feel very hurt and upset, and think they have reasons to ignore and so on.

Normally, he will respond, but just take a long time, but even as much as my rational brain tries to dictate the situation, my emotional side takes over and I react (internally) so strongly to little things..

Don't worry so much. If he doesn't reply, there could be many reasons. He could be busy or just didn't see your message. I get the same way sometimes, but I'm getting better with it.

I think you're a bit too sensitive, I used to be like that too, I over complicate things, and think through small things too much. You gotta pick the things to care about, and for the other things just brush it off and carry on :)
