Is it normal that self hating black people get on my nerves?

I love seeing interracial couples. I find it inspiring and think about the combinations. But. I hate when black men or women call their counterparts ugly. That is not fine. And I know not all black people have the same features. Plus I know that for many self hatred is a symptom of the aftereffects of slavery. It still gets on my nerves though because if your child comes out looking like you and they see how you inadvertently treat people that look like you, that can mess them up.

      I'm talking about people like Azhelia Banks who made fun of a girl darker than her. Or Lil Kim who changed herself completely out of self hatred.

    This is tough to vote on. I don't know if disliking people who insult "their own" kind is common or not. But I do think it's common that growing up in a super-culture that values something particularly makes it at least likely the average citizen will too. I mean, just because someone isn't European-descended doesn't mean he won't be indoctrinated into a culture that has as the major aesthetic standard "European." We're all growing up in the same media culture, pretty much.

    Maybe cut people some slack for their tastes? At least if they're not attacking anyone else outright.
