Is it normal that playing video games makes me feel lonely and anxious?

I enjoy playing video games, but I can't play them for a long periods of time, as they make me feel lonely, worried and anxious. It's usually hard for me to even start a game. I don't know why. It just makes me feel anxious.

I can't play a game for longer than an hour. It makes me feel lonely and disconnected from the world. I get an urge to switch the game off and go read any news website, so that I know what's happening around the world and feel connected to it again.

Is this normal?

Yep. I know exactly how you feel. Maybe you should stop? Or play casually with someone else online or something.

Yes, you're wise to take notice of this. Why not take a break from video games entirely, it certainly can't hurt.

I think that's normal, I feel like that too. Perhaps if you play in moderation you can enjoy the times you play more. Or maybe you have moved on in life and the games don't absorb you as they used to.

You see, non-gamers will look at this and go "Good job OP, you're doing the right thing, video games are a waste of time!" simply because they themselves do not play them or don't deem them as worthwhile. It is entirely possible to play video games while being "connected to the world", just do both! Play games, then go check out the news and do other things, simple. You don't have to feel like games are poison.

Also, if you're feeling lonely when playing games, either due to only playing offline single player or social pressures, the problem could be that you aren't playing online enough. I've played many MMOs and met several really good friends that I've been voice/video chatting with online for years now due to MMOs and console-wise, online Street Fighter 4 or Sonic Transformed sessions are always fun and competitive. Its good to take breaks from gaming but I feel that loneliness can be fixed as most games are meant to be played with others after all.
