Is it normal that people give me nasty looks when i drive my truck?

Recently I have gotten a few dirty looks from people when im pulling into parking lots or sheetz to get fuel. I drive a 02 dodge ram 2500 5.9 cummins diesel. Its not jacked up or anything stock height nothing flashy. Its got a aftermarket exhaust but nothing loud. I use it to haul the boat and rv around plus tons of other chores, so its needed. I moved up from a dodge dakota and never got any looks like that before. I actually save money buyin diesel since its better mpg then buying gas for my old truck at lower mpg. What is everyones problem? Is diesel really that bad of a thing?

When I see someone with an overly enormous truck like that, that doesn't have anything on the towing hitch and doesn't look like it has offroaded or anything, I think "Wow, your overcompensation is a huge waste of gas".

And that whole wanting to get in everyone's face and curse at them because they are looking at your truck funny almost inclines me to say that you might be kind of a prick. I don't know you, but you're driving a huge truck that probably sticks out like a sore thumb from all of the Hondas and Toyotas on the road, and is a lot louder at that being a diesel engine and you're angry at people for looking at you? I'm not even going to explain how stupid that sounds. If you don't want to be noticed, then drive a Corolla. Sorry pal, but that's just how it is.

Would you prefer that they smile and laugh? Or fall to your feet in worship of your huge dick, I mean, truck?

I drive a 99 ram cummins for going on a date pullin a goose neck going on road trips. I average 21mpg city 25mpg or so highway. And you cant buy a cummins without a towing package (includes the hitch) So driving a big diesel truck doesnt mean little man problems or there a prick it might just mean he (and many others) have an all around vehicle hat does everything looks badass and gets great fuel mileage!! And remember CUMMINS RULES

I hear ya, man. Its because all of the idiots with the stupidly loud, lifted diesels belching black smoke. they also never use the damn things for their purpose. I dont mind the loud pipes, but I wouldent lift a truck unless it went off-road.

    • I used my truck as a truck I haul coal, wood, gravel among other things and actually I get 18-20mpg in a 8k lb truck. So im saving more money than what I was in my smaller truck. It would be different if people just looked and then looked away but most people stare for 10 sec.

        ...Ok for real.
Your truck is fucking HUGE and I would venture to say that it is loud too. Not to mention, you're staring at anyone that looks at your truck. Come on.

What do you mean how is it huge! That's a huge truck, dude! And how do you know that the guy's in the 1500's and 150's are being stared at, do you all have a club where you meet to come to that consensus?

And again, diesel-engine=louder. They're probably all like "Who the fuck is strangling a hippo?" or some shit.

Uhh cause i used to own a 1500. I still dont see how its a huge truck if it was lifted 10in and with 40in tires now thats huge my truck is stock. You sound like one of those tree huggers that dont like anything but a prius

You hit the nail on the head. It is because you are young, and they are prejudice/judging of you. I get these looks sometimes. It's normal. You just have to brush your shoulders off and realize that these people are acting ignorant.

    Perhaps your TRUCK is dirty?

    Or maybe it's your face?

    I don't know!

Whenever somebody gives me a nasty look in my diesel I pull up so my 6 inch Metal Mulisha exhaust pipe is pointed right at them and bam black smoke all over. And yes my penis is bigger than my exhaust!

Could be jealousy unless your driving one like Richard Hammond when top gear when through America which btw was the funniest episode I have seen! Although there are some other good ones! When they painted his truck with man love rules!:P couldn't stop laughing! Then people would be giving you dirty looks wherever you go, but normally because of jealousy!

    • Big trucks for guys that actually do real work and get their hands dirty! I dont know where this big vehicle small penis came from.. Seems like most people are jealous. People that own busses, semis or limos must have little stubbys. ha

    (Rant Alert)
Its one thing to have a large truck, especially if its for hauling, and yes, everyone loves to customise a little, but I think its stupid when you have a one ton diesel, lifted on 35's with 28" wheels, stacks that belch black smoke, and a nascar or john deere logo on the truck. a diesel that belches black smoke isnt cool, it means something is wrong with it, (Or you turned up the injectors too high, spraying too much fuel) [you're an idiot if that is intentional]

A well maintained Cummins (or Duramax) should net 400,000+ working miles no problem. if it starts giving you hell at 133,000 miles, then you wonder if that was a good idea.
(Im not sure on the longevity of Ford power strokes)

BTW, the injectors can wear prematurely due to excess pressure, and the excess fuel will carbon up your engine.

Can't comment on your truck or the way you drive it, but my personal view is that diesel is a better option than petrol. I don't know for sure but you can probably use B20 biodiesel without engine modification.

Are you taking up multiple pumping stations? Is it at a particular station, or in a particular part of town? I got those looks from yuppies at a certain Tudor's drive thru a couple times (they acted like it was their priveledge to be there, not mine LOL!) I wouldn't worry about it. Unless you know these people, who cares? You'll probably never see them again.
