Is it normal that people always think my cousin and i are in a relationship?

My cousin and I are very close, but we have a 12 year age difference. We would always hang out together every week. We tend to go to the movies and/or a restaurant. However whenever we go to these places, I realize we get weird looks. We got asked if we are a couple a few times by the people who served us, and my cousin even got ID'd once at a restaurant we were at together. Personally, I don't understand how people make this mistake. I am just really close to my cousin because he's the only cousin I have who is closest to my age.
(I'm a teenager and he's 28)

I got confused as a lesbian when I was out with one of my female friends one time. Funny thing is, i'm a guy! I got my hair cut strait away after that!

It happens. Usually my cousin/male friends and I just roll with it. We don't really care. We'll probably never see those people again anyway and chances are, they will not remember us.

My sister used to be a nanny for a family, and one time I was out walking with her while she had the 1 year old in a stroller. Some middle-aged woman came up to us with this furious look and said "You two should be disgusted! Strolling around the park like you belong with good, God-fearing straight parents!" and stormed off.

People make the funniest assumptions sometimes.

And you know what the venerable Mr. Samuel L. Jackson says:
"When you make an assumption, you make an ass out of you, and umption."

LOL Great story. I remember walking through a neighborhood holding the hand of a little hispanic girl (I am white) to take her home and a group of black women asked me if the child was mixed and I told them that she was 100% latino, both parents, and they were so confused o.o

Ha once I (female) was sitting on a bench in a mall with my very very gay male friend. So he grabbed my hat off my head and put it out of reach. I lean over him to get it back and fall in his lap. At that moment an old man suddenly showed up and started banging his cane yelling, "Go get a room". Awkward...

Yes, people always assume that a guy and a girl who are alone together are in a relationship. I used to get looks from people when I would hang out with my friend who was a girl. We were close to the same age, but we never went out even though I always thought we should have. I am getting off topic though...
