Is it normal that pasta with ketchup is a thing?

I just moved from America to Europe, and realized that an abnormal number of people eat pasta with ketchup. Not even in the most redneck villages in the US I have ever seen people eating plain pasta with ketchup, but here in Europe I have met quite a few that do this regularly, even people from good families and good education.

So, can someone explain me this phenomenon?

You sound like an ignorant American. It's a cultural difference. Simple as that.

    Ketchup is made from tomatoes
Marinara sauce is also made from tomatoes, and is also the most popular pasta sauce
Doesnt sound so weird now does it?

I'm from the US and often have ketchup with spaghetti and meatballs.
