Is it normal that past harassment is still haunting me ?

Hello all the lovely people out there, lately I have been feeling really crappy about events of the past. This guy at school had previously followed me around singing sexually explicit songs, asking me if I would got out with him, and more than a few times touched me inappropriately. I have never divulged this secret to anyone but the principal who did not do anything about it. The guy did not even like me he did these things to poke fun. What would this harassment be called and Is it normal to still feel its' affects years later?

I can't for the life of me understand why you didn't turn around and slap this asshole right across the face and yell something like "Leave me alone!" or "That was completely inappropriate!" as loud as you could.

That's understandable. Sometimes events in your life that would seem petty and meaningless to others can cause you real trauma. Regardless of the circumstances, you felt helpless and violated, and that shit can stay with you. I think it's silly that people judge painful events on a scale, and it's silly for you to tell yourself that it's not relevant because it wasn't something worse. You don't have to be raped or beaten or survive a near death experience to feel upset about what happened. Pain is pain and trauma is trauma; just because someone else had it worse doesn't make your feelings irrelevant.

Let's take this line of thinking to the extreme, so you can see how illogical it is. I broke my leg, but it doesn't matter because some people don't have legs. My friend died, but it doesn't matter because people lost their whole families in the holocaust. If you think this way, then you will discount every feeling that you have, because there is always, always someone who has it worse. That doesn't mean your feelings don't matter.

It's ok to be upset and angry about it. If it's affecting your life, you should talk to someone. There's no reason to discount your feelings; they matter...and this seems like a problem that you should take seriously.

  • Meh. I don't get people. Not saying you're wrong to feeling this way but I got my ass slapped nearly every day in college and half the time in high school and got over it. Is it really having such a strong effect on you?

Maybe you should get together with him and fuck the tight asshole of a cute little infant together. It may help you better under each other.

        Because I need a life
        I don't have one
and I don't mean sexual things
