Very little to do with your story, but someone is marketing a tap/faucet here which dispenses boiling water. I've had this idea since I was a kid, not just from an environmental point of view, but now I'm kicking myself that I didn't do something about it.
Better press on with plans for my "fizzy" tap.
Uh-oh, they have a home carbonator now too! Though it doesn't come out of the tap, it's a counter-top appliance of sorts. If you wanted to look it up I think it's called SodaStream.
hehe, I actually own one. And the scientist in me ran riot with it. I've had fizzy coffee, fizzy milkshakes, and fizzy yoghurt. If anyone owns one and wants to save themself some expense, don't do fizzy hot drinks. The bottles that come with it warp with hot liquid and the bottle caps don't fit any more. For anyone willing to try it, I'm seriously not joking. I really did this and it broke. I never got to find out how a chocolate eclair would taste with fizzy chocolate and fizzy cream. :/
Well...you could employ simple biology to carbonate virtually anything you want. You just have to have two containers-one with warm water and yeast, with an "exhaust" tube going into your other container holding whatever you want to carbonate (basically)...Hey, I wonder if you could use a whipped cream maker that uses nitrous oxide-if the CO2 cylinders are the same size...it shouldn't matter if you put a hot or thick food in there...then again it might explode, who knows?
There's a small mom-and-pop grocery store here that sells some oddball foods, they actually had an Expresso Soda. It was expresso, and it was carbonated, and it was NOT good!!
The hot and cold water don't mix until it goes into your faucet. Try adding an aerator if it doesn't have one already.
