Is it normal that my self esteem and mood drops whenever someone gets mad at me

I have a lot of anxiety and my self esteem is pretty low.

So I can be feeling ok, like pretty happy with myself but then when someone I know gets mad at me or is mean to me in some way my self esteem drops completely and I start to worry about it and criticize myself and start thinking that I'm a bad person and I'll never be good enough.

Am I crazy? Is this normal for people with anxiety and stuff?

What Armose said. It's easier to crumble when your foundation sits on sand. You should work on building your self esteem and being true to who you are so when people question you, you don't budge.

Good to know someone knows what I'm feeling, but sorry that you're going through this, I know how much it sucks. Do you reckon this is just super-sensitivity to criticism? Maybe we see people being unhappy with us as proof of the negative stuff we think about ourselves?

It's a little bit of both, but mostly the second one. It also makes me feel like I'm no longer wanted, even though I know that's not always what anger means.

Try and take a mental step back the next time it happens. The person is letting off steam because they're incapable of keeping their cool like a grown up. So remind yourself that you are better than that; you're a capable valuable person, while you let them have their little moment of anger.
And keep reminding yourself afterwards. Don't let your mind drift into self condemnation.

Easier said than done, I know. And when your self esteem is low to begin with, these things can really bring you down. But at least recognise consciously that it has more to do with the other person than it has to do with you.

This may not be the safest place for you to spend your time.

Ask your doctor about Xanax, it should help in these situations.
