Is it normal that my pc has lasted 7 years and still's run like the first day?

That's it. My PC is 7 years old. I perform hardware maintenance periodically and I try to keep the software in the best possible condition (with everything required to having a Microsoft system in good conditions). Still runs like the first day and I really love it. I want to know if it are in the average life or if I start to wonder that mi PC (Toshiba Satellite A350) will soon die.

Had a Windows 98 used daily for 12 years,(September 1998- December 2010) that my parents bought brand new, which was my personal computer since 05 (so five years for me) then bought a Windows 7 laptop for college, laptop is now 5 years old and still running, albeit slowly, but it has always been slow. The 98 still runs, but needs a sound card, plus I haven't been able to find a way to make certain things run on it, so now its for playing old games.

The xp my mother bought in 2005 worked fine till a month ago, when the power box went out.

Why are you keeping such an outdated piece of technology? Hit it with an ebolohammeh and purchase a new one.

    • This is subjective. I work with different machines. some of them are leading in technology and I really can not complain. since for personal use, in my house I really have too many resources. So difficult to survey aside sexuality? lol One thing, I think green.

You know one thing about today's technology is that the manufacturers realised quickly that consumers won't buy new products if the devices they use is still relevant to their needs so they came up with "updates" that rendered the devices useless.

Of course there are legitimate updates but most of them are fucking useless to the average Joe or Jane.

It's unusual that anything running Microsoft products has lasted that long period. But even being in top condition it's still going to be dog slow next to new, properly kitted out product, especially if it's running a superior operating system, which when it comes to Microsoft isn't that hard to beat.

Hate to get evangelistic about this subject but if you're not running one Linux distribution or another you're not really living.
