Is it normal that my parents ignore me and forget about me?

My parents are both divorced and super into their work. Dad cheated on mum all the time which is why they split.

I always got really good opportunities and stuff but they never really liked to spend much time with me. They were usually out and left me with a babysitter most of the time. They never turned up for school things like netball games and award ceremonies. They left early for my graduation. We didn't talk much, because I couldn't get much out of them and our dialogue felt weird, fake and forced.

After I moved out, they never really called me to check on me, and if I called them it was hard to reach them because of their work. If they did, it'd just be the same sort of blank conversations. Seeing my friends being close with their parents and close families on the tv confused me.

Now I live a lone and 8 months back I got seriously injured and put in the hospital. It took my dad 2 weeks to turn up, and mum only came after I asked dad to get her. They were concerned, I guess, but after I was out of the hospital they went back to before.

Neither of them remarried, and I'm their only kid ever.

Is anyone else's parents like this?

Yep, only mine never divorced. And I loved the freedom it allowed me. I could go anywhere and do anything I chose and nobody asked me to be home at a certain time or where I'd been.
There's always two sides to any coin, you just have to choose which you wish to look at.

True, I guess there's a silver lining. I dunno, I guess I just don't feel good enough to have anyone care about me. But yeah, what you said was a plus, too. I guess I'll feel more happy about my past and childhood after I've spent more time enjoying life.
