Is it normal that my normally kind cat tried to strangle me in my sleep?

My mom thinks Mochi was being lovey and hugging me but I woke up with 4 long cat-shaped scratches going down the back and right side of my neck..

    Is this a surprise? If you were a real cat owner you'd know that your pet was plotting your death every day, and it's plans were only foiled by wet food.

    The cat was just being a cat, it wasn't trying to strangle you! How could a cat strangle a human anyway?

    You probably rolled on it in your sleep, so maybe stop sleeping with the cat?

      I don't roll and he sleeps beside the bed not on it.

        If he attacked you in your sleep for no reason and it's uncharacteristic behaviour I'd be taking him to the vet. At the very least, lock him out of your bedroom at night
