Is it normal that my mom wants me to date other guys!

My boyfriend and I have been together for 3 years, he's joining the coast guard and is meeting up with me to get an apartment near my future college and his base. We've lived together for the past 2 1/2 years and we're so in love, planning on getting engaged and working hard to build our life together (he's 20, I'm 19). I can't imagine myself with anyone else and neither can he, we're best friends and more than compatible lovers. The thing is my mother is dead set against our getting an apartment together and getting engaged (even though she's fine with us living together in her house for this whole time?) and she won't stop nagging me to date other guys (sometimes in front of him!) I was just wondering if what she's doing is normal, any advice any of you can give or if anyone thinks she's right, tell me why you think it's a good idea. I just hate being pressured to date other people when I'm so utterly happy with my relationship.

    It makes sense when I think of it that way, and I do want to date other guys at some point but at the same time thinking about it makes me sick. I feel guilty for even considering it. Especially since he told me we'd no longer have any chance at a romantic relationship if I did date any other people. Makes me sad, he's my best friend.

    Your mother thinks you are too young to take on all the chores of looking after a man, and certainly not the same man for the rest of your life at your age. She's worried about what will happen in 5 years when you're saddled with kids, no money, etc and you two perhaps split up. She wants you to experience other male personalities in case you get itchy feet at a later date. You need to know what you want / don't want in a man - and not just settle for what you can get.

    Otherwise she's just being nasty and rude to him for stealing her little girl away.

    I have to admit you are VERY young to me. The girl you are at 19 is not the same woman you are at 39.

    your mom is trying to fuck things up, its not normal take my advice. some people hate to see there sons and daughters grow up happier then them.
