Is it normal that my mom is happy about me finally cutting my hair?

I used to have long hair... until I cut it almost three months ago. It was halfway past my back, but now it's so short that it doesn't touch my shoulders. Actually, I have the kind of haircut that is longer on top, but the sides and the back of my hair is tapered. When I came back from the hair salon, my mom was shocked, but she was happy because she said it looks better. My mom was telling me to cut it for years, but I didn't do it until just recently (6 years later). It was in really bad condition. There were so many split ends and dried up hair that I just got sick of it. It literally never looked good, but now it looks awesome. The frizz is totally gone. I think it's cool that I discovered that I actually look better with short hair.
