Is it normal that my longest lasting friendship is online?

I've been talking to my friend who lives in the UK for over six years--longer than any of my real life friends that I currently talk to. Whenever I tell people I've known him for so long, they look at me like I'm an antisocial idiot who's probably going to get Catfished. So, is it inappropriate to build a lasting friendship with somebody online that you've never actually met?

Awwwww... The social medias must be pretty special to you! *pat pat*

I actually found that sweet. Because you're like, "I love my online friend sooo much!" Then, other peeps are like, "You sure their your friend?" Then, you say, "....YESSSS!" and you run away to a computer where you can talk to them! :)

Its pretty normal to find a long lasting friendship in social medias. Actually my friend got her boyfriend in social media where they started as a friend until they developed with each other and became lovers. Maybe one day that friend of yours and you will meet somewhere....
