Is it normal that my girlfriend is native american?

My girlfriend is Caucasian, Hispanic, and Native American. She was born in Florida but her ancestry is Dutch, Irish, German, Dominican, Puerto Rican, Cherokee, and Chickasaw. The thing is that she looks completely white and not like any other culture at all, which is why she expects other people to just see her as a white person. For example, the other day I called her "Pocahontas" and she threw a book at my head. I have been thinking about breaking up with her because she constantly keeps denying her multicultural heritage and I think she might be ashamed of it too.

If she looks white and passes for white, you should probably just call her 'white.' You don't have to walk around all "well, I'm not just white, I'm English, Cherokee, Russian, Zulu, Taiwanese, etc., but I look white." I say if you look white and people treat you like you're white upon meeting you, unless you have absolutely nothing white or caucasian about you, you shouldn't be expected to specify what exactly your heritage is to anyone and no one should be allowed to bar you from calling yourself 'white'.

Her heritage is American. She comes from a richly ethnic bloodline. But to call her Pocahontas is equal to calling a black woman Mrs. Butterworth. You weren't cute. You were an asshole. You are, most likely, considering breaking up with her because she has probably already dumped you.

I never thought of Mrs. Butterworth as being black.

Hell, I'm a native American. Born in North America. I kinda look white, so people call me white.
However, I do not claim to be a descendant of one of the North American Indian tribes. But I AM a native American.

Maybe she doesn't like you singling out one element of the rich tapestry of her heritage and mocking it?
I don't see why the Native American heritage is more significant than the Dutch, Irish, German, Dominican, Puerto Rican.

I am half Scot, half Dutch, a bit of German and some Afrikaner...I love whiskey and fuck anything...that makes me a stark raving drunkard of a South African bastard!

so fucking what? as long as I function in society, who gives a continental fuck what my heritage is?

Your girlfriend has tits and a pussy, can see, has both hands and both legs? seems pretty fucking normal to me!

If I was you I might call her Pocahontas also, untill the first time she informed me she didn't like it. After that I would always be looking for opportunities to help her develop a better self image. In the US Blacks and "Indians" and Mexicans (and to a lesser degree even Irish and Poles) have been so unfairly and often violently put down and denigrated that many of them would prefer to deny who and what they are and just blend in as white Americans.

I think everybody should be proud of who they are, what they are, and where they come from. Embrace your heritage. It's a composite of your parents, and your grandparents, and the ones before them.
Be a good person and hold your head up proudly and exclaim to the world "I'M PART CHEROKEE, I'M PART CHICASAW, PUERTO RICAN, or whatever"! Those are all good things! Nothing to be ashamed of or embarrassed about! If anybody doesn't like it look 'em right in the eye and tell 'me to kiss your ass!
