Is it normal that my fascination of people distracts me in conversations?

Say if someone is talking to me, if I look at them while they're talking I will notice little things about them, the way their fringe falls across one of their eyes, the little movements in the corner of their mouth, the shape of their jawbone, the more delicate features of their face and makeup. I start to think of what a miraculous and amazing thing the human body and the physical world is. And I totally lose track of the conversation. This happens to me often.
Is it normal?

  • I get that, I don't do it so much because I don't make alot of eye contact. I'm vague, very vague.

Only if I'm pissed off at the person do I tend to look straight at their face for a long enough period to notice anything much about them. I think it's why I'm so bad with faces, because I don't pay enough attention to remember the person properly.

I'm sort of like that but its not always because I'm looking at some part of the person, but occasionally it is. Sometimes even when I am hearing their voice, its just a sound and I'm not taking in the words. Or I just kinda zone out and can't hear/don't listen to the conversation. Its weird. Then when I snap back to attentionland I'm lost.

This happens to me too, and it's getting to become more frequent, especially since that I have recently been drawing humans as a norm. But more so that I get sort of scared by their gaze when they are staring directly at me(people I am not familiar with). Then at that point, all I see is their eye burrowing into me, and I get super uncomfortable with returning my gaze and I lose all attention in what they are talking about. That is why I don't very often make eye contact with strangers. -sigh- Problems of social anxiety...

So in other words you are checking them out. Pay attention to people when they are talking. Its rude when you dont.

I think you might want to read books on personality types. Yours sounds enjoyable, but it could be hard for you to be successful in life because you are not paying attention to what other people think is important.

I have this tendency in a way also, although I am more distracted by my surroundings and nature and environments than by people.

Maybe you should draw people, then you can focus on those lovely details all you want and conversation could be the sidepiece.

I do draw people. Trust me it compounds the problem.
