Is it normal that my dad chooses dignity, pride, and manliness over money?

My dad lost his job during the recession and hasnt been able to keep one since. That being said, we dont have a lot of money laying around and that means little food in the house. Now my grandparents on the other hand, they are rolling in it. They are the kind of people who live simple but have lots of money stashed more bank accounts than I can count and what not. They know that my dad is struggling and demand that he take their money but he never does because he says 'I dont take charity... I can make my own money' bla bla bla... My grandma secretly send me money every month so I wont die and I do have a job but is it normal for my dad to do this?

I think your dad's pride is selfish in this instance.

Your Dad needs to realise, we all have low moments and we occasionally need help.

Maybe you could tell Dad that the money they are offering is not a hand out but more of a hand up to get him back on his saddle.

You have enough money for internet access, I doubt you will starve.

    • I highly doubt that I will... its one of those things where he eats most of the food in the house and actually I use my neighbors internet (they gave me the password for house watching).
