Is it normal that my chewing gum loses it's flavour on the bedpost overnight?

Whenever I put my chewing gum on my bedpost and go to sleep it loses it's flavour. My Gran once stuck gum all round her bed and caught a prowler in the night. IIN?

    I know an old lady who put her gum on the lamp base by her reading chair. The wad was pretty big last week.
