Is it normal that my boyfriend gets angry at me when i dont leave a tip?

My boyfriend gets pissed at me when I don't leave the waitress/waiter a tip. He actually was beyond pissed one night that I started crying.... but sometimes I just don't think they deserve a tip :/

Perhaps he should pay for the tip.

That is a very silly thing to get mad about! Good luck!

Unless the server was rude or spit in your meal or something you should tip. Servers only get paid $3 per hour!
Maybe youre just cheap? If you are that cheap you shouldn't go out to eat you should get take-away. Servers remember people who don't tip and next time they just might spit in your food.
Either way cheapness and meanness is not a trait most people find attractive. I side with your boyfriend on this. However if hes not leaving a tip either than hes a hypocrite too.

Why doesn't he leave the tip?

Why does he constantly expect you to pay?

    Sometimes, the service is bad.
    Sometimes, the food is bad.
You don't always have to leave a tip. You shouldn't have to be expected to "reward" them on their deplorable way of running business.

Don't tip unless they desereve it. That's how you end up with those prissy asshole waiters/waitresses

    It's normal.

I agree that if he feels they deserve a tip and you don't he should tip. But discrepancies in how shared experiences (like sharing a meal at a resturant) won't fly for long. Part of it is if they feel the service was not that bad then it seems that you are being cheap and inconsiderate. But losing the afinity of a shared reality matters a whole lot no matter what. My boyfriend tips like me, .50 for worst service; 15% for average and up to 25% for spectacular service...we talk about the tip ad well before we leave and our opinions never vary widely.

    I agree with your boyfriend.

I went out with one guy who never tipped ... I was embarrassed by his behavior. The man I'm with now is like me - he tips well.

Not surprisingly when we go back to places... we are remembered and treated very well.

Perhaps you'll find service improves if you start treating the waiters like people instead of servants. Not to mention your boyfriend will be happier with being seen in public with you.

Maybe I'm just naïve, but I thought it was against the law not to leave a tip -_- ?

A lot of the time, they don't deserve it, but I always thought you had to do it..oops.

If there is an attitude or something of the sort, I dont tip at all.

I tip, even when mistakes are made, provided there is no attitude.

He thinks that you think you are better than the waiting staff - which you're not! He has been brought up to respect everyone as equal by his parents and he's seriously considering your principles - and whether you're worth his time or not :o(

Be careful, sound like he's halfway out the door!

If the service was truly bad, leave a penny. Thats a huge insult :) If I wasn't pleased with the service I'll the the bare minimum tip, and if they did a great job I'll do 20-25%.

If you just go around not leaving tips for no good reason, then I'd be pissed at you too. Its rude. Waiters and waitresses get paid nearly nothing to serve shitty rude people all day long.

People who treat waiters and retail workers like shit, need to walk a day in their shoes.

He Definitely has control issues. Leave him, because it gets worse to the point of Abuse. Get out while it's still safe to leave without violence from him.

Sometimes they don't deserve a tip, but only if they do something drastically stupid. Buy shouldn't he be paying anyway? And if he's gonna bitch about tip, make him do it!
