Is it normal that my boyfriend doesn't want me at his warhammer tournament?

My boyfriend is a total geek. I'm pretty geeky too (not as much as him though. I don't have the time for it lol) so I'm genuinely interested in his life and his hobbies. He's participating in a Warhammer tournament this weekend and I asked if I could tag along, especially since I want to get into Warhammer. He said I could but I could kind of tell he didn't really want me there. So I tried to get some answers out of him. Lame excuses mostly. "A lot of the people there are condescending, competitive and rude" or "You would get bored". I explained to him that I could handle it and I am fully capable of leaving whenever I wanted. He said it was up to me, but I'm pretty sure he didn't want me along.

    He's only trying to look out for you, the battlefield is no place for a girl when the imperial guard and dark elder go to war.

    I don't know what a warhammer tournament is and what it entails, but what I picked up on is that your bf is already heavily involved in it while you're not (yet). Could it be that he'd find it distracting having a newcomer by his side who he'd have to look after and explain things to? His priorities would be split between getting fully into things and paying attention to you. Or maybe he's a little embarrassed about his enthusiasm for something many perceive as nerdy and would feel like holding back a bit in your presence? Just some ideas. Maybe you should just let him geek out on his own.

    Lets be honest, most people who are into Warhammer will not have girlfriends. If he were to bring you along, most people would probably think that you were his sister or something, which might embarrass him.

    Maybe there is a rule about not bringing anyone along, but it was too complicated for him to explain. In that case it wouldn't be personal at all.

    There can be lots of reasons he doesn't want you there. I'll list some of the less obvious ones besides you not being interested.

    1. It's his "me" time and just wants to be in different surroundings for a change. He may prefer you to just be out of the picture for this whether you like it or not.

    2. Bringing you can kinda be seen as showing off in a sense. The female presence at an event like that is most likely lacking.

    3. If hes serious about it and enjoys doing well in the tournament you may be seen as a distraction and can affect his performance. Having some girl that doesn't understand anything thats going on asking questions and even just cheering on is annoying.

    From what I've seen warhammer players take the game very seriously. He probably just doesn't want any distractions.
