Is it normal that most of my judgments and ideas come from observation?

Many people say things like "Trust me. I've been there." or "Oh yeah been there don that." which shows they know what they're talking about due to experience. However, I only know things from observation..and some experience.. but I haven't really actually experienced much. I can't really tell people to trust me when I give them advice because the reality is I only know most of what I know from watching friends and family going through these experiences or reading it somewhere. Is this normal? Should I try to experience more? It's not like I feel like I'm missing out. I really don't. But what do you think?

Yeah most advices come from experience, but experience is gained in many ways and one of them is observation, look at it this way:

You know a couple x and y both of them are your friends actually best friends and they tell you everything , and they broke up some day and they both tell you their sides, know you have the experience of both sides ( x and y ), if you were the x you would know only your side of the story :D... hope you get my analogy.

What I think is that most of society today is based on observation , We learn from our errors in witch we observe what has gone wrong to learn from our errors , so basically what i am saying is that your are normal and you have nothing to worry about .

Isn't "Trust me. I know what I'm talking about," pretty high up there for famous last words? To me, this always sounds like "Do it my way, not your way."

People still say "been there done that?"
