Is it normal that it's always a struggle for me to wake up in the mornings?

Hi,

I'm 21. Ever since I was a young teen, I've had problems with waking up/getting out of bed in the mornings, and I usually sleep until 4-5 PM. I usually get 8-10 hours of sleep every night, but it doesn't really matter how much sleep I get... I could get 15 hours of sleep in one night(and I have, more than once). Once I fall asleep it seems impossible for me to wake up and get myself out of bed any time before 4-5 PM.

I never have any trouble falling asleep. Once I lay down and close my eyes, I fall asleep almost instantly.
Waking up is the problem.
I've tried setting my alarm clock many many times, but I always sleep right through it, and my alarm is SUPER loud. I've tried having people wake me up early in the mornings many times and if I do actually wake up, I fall right back asleep once that person leaves me alone. I don't do it on purpose, just happens...

Why is it such a struggle for me to wake up/get out of bed in the mornings? I guess I should mention: I don't have a job currently, don't have any friends, I basically just sit around the house all day, every day. And I barely get any exercise. But like I said at the start of this post, this has been going on ever since I was a young teen, and I was a pretty active teen, always running around outside with my brothers, riding bikes, etc... I'm 21 now.

Thanks! :)

I'm the same way, have been for as long as I can remember. I've been to the doctor numerous times & they can't find anything abnormal in my blood tests. One doctor suggested I have sleep apnea and said I should go through a sleep study, but I don't even snore.
After reading online, I've come to the conclusion I have high levels of the sleep hormone melanin. Everything I've read goes against trying to reduce levels of melanin because it helps repair dna and fight cancer.
It's frustrating because I could be so much more productive if I wasn't always so tired. I get moderate exercise now, but even when I was running & weight training for a few years, was still the same.

You said you get 8-10 hours sleep and wake up at 4pm that means you are going to sleep at 6-8am maybe trying going to sleep at say 10pm every night and you should get into a more normal sleeping routine.

Have you ever been screened for depression? It can really affect your sleep cycle.

It's the opposite for me. I have trouble falling asleep, but I never have a problem waking up.

Not normal. I think should go to a sleep centre.

Woah, wait. 4-5 in the afternoon? I understand having trouble waking up, but sleeping in that late? Not normal. I would suggest seeing a doctor about this, and get a professional opinion, because this just sounds outrageous to me. Also, excersize! Everyone needs excersize.
