Is it normal that it bothers me to be called sweetie or hun by other women?

I know some use it as a term of endearment, but it makes me feel degraded and spoken down to, like the other woman is trying to place themselves in higher or more mature "motherly" position

I don't really like when women use those names on me. Especially if they are not even 10 years older than me.

But I took notice to something. Those women who are under under 40 who don't tend to regard you as child-like in their eyes. I have friends of similar ages who certain women don't call these endearing names to, but frequently call me those names. I also deducted that those same friends appear more manly than me.

I can't help the fact that I don't feel obligated to flirt with any decent piece of ass that walks by like my friends do. Lol.

I really don't like it either. It sounds so condescending. It doesn't help that I am 5ft 3 so am shorter than lots of people so I'm seen as 'cute'. Urgh. I hate being 'cute'. I want to be taken seriously!

I'm from the south so it's totally normal that I often use the words "sweets, pumpkin, pudding, dear, baby...etc after nauseating etc" lol! You can tell when someone is using these terms just to be an uppity bitch or whether it's just a habit.

I worked in a bingo hall when I was 18 and the majority of punters were women between 60 and 80. I got called petal, flower, love, dear, sweetheart, sugar-buttie, cherub, and all kinds of others I've no doubt forgotten. I guess a lot of it was they were getting a bit forgetful and if you call absolutely everyone by the same term of endearment, you never have to worry about forgetting their name.

I once knew a girl who mixed up two terms of endearment in one (dear and darling became dearling). I thought that was sweet.

  • Well, it depends on how old you are, cause I sometimes use it if the person is or seems to be like 10-14 yrs old but only because I'm being nice.

To me it's more about being caring than being "above them."
