I'm starting to see black people differently? Like, more as 'one of us' - as 'folks who have something to do with us', rather than as 'one of them'?

I'm not in the US but it seems the whole world is watching and feeling along with America in this moment.

I like this shift. I like hearing more stories from BAME individuals. I don't like that people had to die for it to happen. Do you think it will last?

    A black man killed a white cop in my state. No one gives a shit. A white cop kills a black man and the whole country erupts in chaos. If that's not racism I dont know what is

      Black people gatekeeping police harassment is hurting the movement. The problem is cops go around asserting authority because it feels good and basically doing whatever they want. The cop unions defend them no matter what they do, and internal investigation tends to end up with evidence mysteriously missing or charges filed that won't stick and so it's incredibly hard to get a cop the same sentence for anything that a civilian could get.

      The problem is lack of accountability that causes them to behave like a criminal gang with no fear of punishment. A black guy who killed a white cop is probably going to jail, a cop of any race who kills anyone is very likely to face zero charges whether it was justified or not.

      Floyd isn't the first and only victim, earlier this year black nurse Breonna Taylor was shot dead in her own apartment, in 2014 Eric Garner was chocked to death and cried I can't breath, his only fault he was suspected of smoking which was never even proven. these are just 3 out of many "recent" cases. What happens to whites is a crime too, murder is murder regardless of race, yet it cannot be denied blacks are still the majority victims..

        Not necessarily true. More white people are murdered by police than black people. Perhaps you could bring in those statistics with the population of whites and blacks to claim more blacks than whites die compared to their population but then we'd be insanely dishonest if we didn't bring the crime statistics per population too.

          I think they adjust it for population percentages or something.

          The real reason is black people get mad when a white cop shoots a black person, but most white people trust authority so if they hear about a white person getting shot they just figure he must have been doing something wrong and don't see it as personal.

        And neither is this the only case in reverse. As many as there is in ok ne side there is just as many on the other. The only diffrence is one gets hyped while the other doesnt

          The other is rare deny it however much you want. Incidents of black police officers killing whites unless for self defense are absolutely minimal. The black guy that killed the police you talked about is a criminal who killed a cop, criminals are criminals irrespective of the race. We are talking killings by cops, not by criminals. But cops exists for protection of people not to end people's life. You may make statements, but facts won't change its white police officers killing unarmed black people for decades even after all the civil rights movement in the 50s-60s, the other way round is absolutely minimal.

              Right...because one happens a LOT more often than the other. Maybe you’re not aware, but they actually keep track of these things. There were 235 black peoples murdered by the police in 2019, compared to 40 white police officers who were murdered in 2019. Even if every single white cop who died was killed by a black person(unlikely, to say the least), the reverse still happens six times more often. When you account for the fact that only seven of those police officers died in unprovoked attacks or ambushes, meaning the others likely had little or nothing to do with race, the disparity becomes even greater.

        Go to training for 9 months and you get a gun and the authority to use it on anyone for any reason, packaged in with a culture that will go to great lenghts to make sure you're never accountable for anything again. Just as long as your IQ is below 85, cause y'know, the job is too boring or whatever for smart people.

    I feel as tho I can definitely get behind the movement to stop police brutality and fix the justice system. I get all my shit ready to go and I'm gonna march with BLM to protest. And then the leader is like "oh yeah and fuck white ppl and fuck America " and then i put my shit back and im like yeah nevermind.

It's worse for black people, but its still a symptom of the same problem, a group acting like a criminal gang with a system in place to protect them from consequences. Not cops going out to kill black people on purpose because of racism

        I think what happened to George Floyd was terrible, and that he was a victim of police brutality, and that police brutality killed him, but he's certainly not a blameless saint of a person. I hope that the police officer that killed him is prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.
