Is it normal that i want to lose weight but my boyfriend gets mad about it?

I'm 5'5 and weigh 125 pounds. I wanna lose like 15 pounds and get to a good size. Every time I mention losing a little weight my boyfriend gets mad and tells me how "perfect" I am already. It kinda annoys me because I'm not comfortable with what I am now. I don't think I'm fat but I feel like I can afford to lose a bit.

He is probably worried about you. Your not at all overweight and losing 15 lbs would put you underweight.

I doubt losing 15 pounds will make you happy.

    • I think it would. I've lost a few pounds in the past and it always makes me happy.

15 lbs is still not a few pounds. It is more than 10% of your body weight. Any time your goal is more than 10%, you are setting yourself up for failure. Focus on being healthy. However your current goal is very unhealthy and likely to cause you malnutrition. You are currently at a healthy weight, why change that?

        • I've done it before, I'm sure I can do it again.

And that, right there, should tell you that it is not something you can maintain. Don't kid yourself, your goal is unrealistic and unhealthy. It will leave you weak and prone to bone loss. Talk to a professional if you don't believe me. You are setting yourself up for disappointment and future health problems. Our bodies want to be healthy and you don't seem to know what that means.

            • Maintain? I haven't gained weight. Being overweight is unhealthy. I just want to be thin enough.

He's probably mad because you're already at a normal weight, yet you want to become underweight.

Yea I agree at that height that is a good healthy weight, I'm the same height and at 115 I felt dreadful.

Maybe because I lost the weight took quickly, I probably should have left that part out. I tend to over-share at times, my apologies.

Try just being more fit and healthy, and no so much on the number value

    • I would consider myself healthy. I'm semi-vegetarian, and I don't even like fattening food. I kinda trained myself to find it repulsive. And I run two miles or more every day, on top of toning workouts every other day.

Well then as a fellow semi vegetarian, I think ur doing okay, just focus on how u feel and not a number like u said, I'm guessing u want something in particular, like a flatter tummy or something, if that's the case, try incorporating more specific set of work outs to that.

Being a guy and like forever skinny I sorta get how u feel in reverse, since I can get really tone and strong, but never put any muscle mass on.

        • I just want to be thinner and more toned in general. And it seems like the more I tone, the more I feel I need to tone after. I dunno. It's a never ending cycle lol

I get that, it can be addicting, just don't get too addicted and over do it. But when i was 17,18 I was like that too. I worked out nearly twice everyday and it felt great, I was only like a 160lbs but I could push O-line men on our football team that had 80lbs on me, but then my new job was already physically demanding and hard on knees and back that I eventually quit.

I always wanted to get back to it, my current job is less demanding so if i can manage to get more comfortable in it, I might join u again as someone that likes feeling good about how they feel after workouts

Then stop dieting and concentrate on your gifts. Losing thirty pounds when you don't need to is going to cause health problems (what guy looks forward to paying for hospital bills?), psych issues (guys don't want schitzo girlfriends), emotional issues (anger, depression, anxiety), not to mention loss of friends who give up on all the drama and trauma.

Give it up and work on your strengths.

Like it or not, you already have the ED mindset. You're going to have to ask yourself which is more important; your weight or your guy. You should make the choice before he does. Because dudes do NOT stick around to see the ending of the show.

You think he like your fat ? NO . He is trying to tell you that he likes you no matter what you are in your size . In his eyes you are best . You must be that way for him say that . Because I'm sure he wouldnt say it if you are size you described . I say more like 5 ' 10 " 215 lb .

It must be hard to lose weight when you have nothing to lose.

It can be a slippery slope. Eating disorders are nothing to play around with (not that I'm accusing you, but that once you begin, it's difficult to turn back...trust me on this).

Believe it or not, many guys like a little jiggly meat on their lovers' bones. Let him enjoy you.

  • I'm really not all that thin. I could afford to lose a bit of weight and still be fine.

You need more cake not less foods.

Sounds like you are wasting away.
