Vantablack, the darkest material. Absorbs 99.5 percent of all light. It's so insanely black that it's insane that such a material actually exists. However, I really wish they would make a ninja suit out of this material. I would totally buy it!
I've always been fond of the idea of walking about like a hole in reality as well but that's a lot easier said than done. True Vantablack actually absorbs even more than that and we've even created materials darker than Vantablack now.
One of the first hurdles to overcome is the fact that true Vantablack actually has to be grown on the surface it's intended to cover and it doesn't handle disturbance thereafter all that well. The second issue is that Vantablack traps light and it subsequently bounces between the vertically aligned nanotube arrays (the namesake) until it dissipates as heat, so cooling could be a potential issue.
For now it's best used for things like preventing stray light from entering telescopes, but that's certainly a cool idea and something I confess I've thought about.
If the military shows more interest in using similar materials for things such as thermal camouflage this will possibly widen the doorway to that conversation but it's far from our primary goals for the materials right now.

Very cool! Then I presume you saw the famous image of aluminum foil coated in it. Keep in mind that the coated portion is also wrinkled but looks completely flat because of how black it is, not to mention how reflective alluminum foil naturally is. You're quite welcome.
Our beautiful ESA made the vantablack first. But I'd rather want a vantablack telescope instead. You know, I'm interested in astrophysics.
