Is it normal that i've always wanted to live in a shack?

I've always found the look of shacks so appealing, a house that was clearly put together by human hands. Beach shacks, wood shacks, mountain shacks, shacks made of wood and sheet metal - I love them all! I like houses that feel like the outdoors on the inside. I don't like how modern houses are shields from the outside world. I like my space, but I think I could appreciate a cozy little shack as well. Or I could just add on and have a large spacious shack. As long as I can hear/feel the wind and smell the trees, I will be content in my drafty worn down shack.

Careful what you wish for, you say living in a house is a shield from the outside world but it's actually a shield from the harsh elements. Some people live in shacks and cardboard boxes and wish they lived in a house, I get where you're coming from though it's just that you would see living in a shack as a fancy but the fact is that you know you could always live in such house when you find it sucks... some people don't have that luxury.

    • I live in a 40 year old trailer with no heat or air. Rats scamper throughout the walls all night. They're basically eating through my house. A shack would be just fine. If it had a fireplace, a good roof and a nice view that would be a luxury.

You could get a virtual shack. All the comforts of a sturdily built house, but with sound effects and smells that convincingly mimic that lovely shack vibe. If it's not available you could always invent it!

As long it is a shit shack. We used to have a giant sign made out of a bed sheet for ours hanging from the rafters on the inside. It said "Welcome to shit shack #269".

A lot of places we sail are the playgrounds for the rich and famous. Their mansions little the Caribbean islands and every time I see one they make me shiver.
Who needs THAT much space in a home? 20 30 40 rooms. For what?
My home is 53' long, 15 feet wide, with 3 bedrooms, 2 baths, a kitchen and a living room and an engine room. Maybe 425 square feet, but since the furniture is built in, it's quite a bit smaller in reality.
That's plenty for us. So I can relate to your shack, size wise, though cabin (a cozier term IMO) would be my description. Anything much bigger is just a waste of building materials to me.

    • A cabin or cottage would also be lovely. I wouldn't mind one spacious room for dancing and other activities, but I find a strange comfort in clutter. Some types of clutter.
