Is it normal that i used to hate my curly hair?

My hair is naturally curly, but I used to hate it with a passion. I was never fond of it and I always thought it was so ugly, even though other people (including my mom) loved it. I used to see other girls with straight hair and then I wished my hair would be straight too. I would go to the hair salon to get my hair straightened or have my mom straighten my hair whenever it was possible. Of course, the process of straightening my hair took over an hour. My scalp became so sore from all of the pulling and stretching that was required to straighten my hair. As you can see, I used to suffer just to get my hair to be straight. Fortunately, I no longer hate my curly hair. Actually, I have learned to embrace it (and love it). I learned to love it after I got my hair cut really short a few months ago. When I washed my hair for the first time after getting it cut, I noticed that my curls were actually healthy looking for the first time. I instantly fell in love with my curls because they look so spiraly and bouncy. I now realize that my curly hair was never ugly. It was simply damaged.

You can always buy a straightener and use it

I'm a guy. I was born with dark brown curls like you. I grew up hating them. Now, I think they're sort of cool. What bothers me is that women think they are too perfect to be natural. Go figure.

I can totally relate. Also a boy with curly brown hair. I hated it with passion when growing up, middle school was a nightmare as kids aren't that kind with each other, and anything that make you stand out is a thing you can be bothered with.
I tried to hide it and straighten it, it looked bad... But after a while, I tried to embrace it. I let it curl and I got more and more compliments about it. Quite a few people doubt it's even natural. But well now I feel much better about it :)
