Is it normal that i used one of those ear wax kits and it makes things worse?

I used one of those ear wax removal kits (you know with that little bottle of drops and the rubber bulb thing), and it seems like it just causes all the wax to go deeper in the ear, clogging it more. Before the wax was just there and would gunk up my head phones, but now I can barely hear out of that ear!

This is not the first time that it's happened like this either.

    • Nah, I think I did it right. My ears are fine now.

  • Well, managed to get the other one too. The trick is you really gotta force that water in there through the bulb or else it's not going to do anything.

Nothing more satisfying than seeing big black hunks of gunk fly out of my ear into my sink.

My hearing overall seems to be a bit better as well. It must have been affecting things for a while but I just got used to it and didn't notice.

  • I spent a few hours with it yesterday. And after flushing it out 20-30 times, finally this huge chunk came out and all is well.

So um... now I gotta try the other ear...

When I was younger, my ears would clog up every now and then. The first time it happened my hearing was impaired for about a week. It was horrible. My family finally took me to the doctor and they flushed out the earwax with, I think, alcohol and warm water. If I were you, I go to ENT and see if they can remedy the situation.

You probably didn't work at it enough. Sometimes you have to flush the ear 20 times or more. It's not magic!

You might have water trapped behind earwax causing the hearing loss. Try to flush out your ears again and keep working at it until you get results.

You can put some rubbing alcohol into your ear and that will help dry up any water that's trapped in there.

You can also try using hydrogen peroxide to clean your ears. Lie down on one side and put the peroxide in your ear, lie there and let it do it's thing for 10 minutes. Sit up, drain it out. You can do this by itself or do it as a precursor to flushing your ears. Depends on how dirty your ears are.
