Is it normal that i try to sound more intellegent when i am sad?

When I get sad, melancholy, depressed, whatever you want to call it, during my feeling, I think out my word choice more and usually end up sounding more intelligent. I use some words that may rarely even come up in normal conversation. It sometimes sounds like I am trying to write a book with my pensive sadness.

Maybe it's because being sad (and other emotions linked to being not happy) evokes thought? I can see how one can have more time to think when one is sad; when a person is happy you don't take the time to question yourself on why you are happy - you are too busy living in the moment and feeling good.

It makes sense to be more wordy when sad, because of it being pensive like you said. Happiness on the other hand is rather uninhibited and fleeting.

What I have wondered for a while though is if being wordy is a way of unknowingly creating distance between oneself and others.
