Is it normal that i think the fantasy genre lacks in originality and fantasy?

I'm actually really sick of the fantasy genre in movies and games. Why? Because I think this genre truly lacks fantasy and originality. Everything just seem like Lord of the Rings clones to me. Come on, it's freaking fantasy for god's sake, anything is possible, not just cliche things like dragons, dwarves, elves, medieval settings, etc.

    A few are pretty sick. I'm more of a sci-fi guy but I got into Lord of the Rings and the Bible.

        Ya, because sci-fi deals more with futuristic concepts and it's fun to speculate about how that can be possible in our reality.

    Some of Clive Barker’s earlier books like Weaveworld, Imajica, The Great and Secret Show and Everville are excellent dark fantasy novels like nothing else.

    I've been working on a fantasy world. It's based on the renaissance and has space craft flown by priests who have been given the power to control souls by their gods.

    Gormenghast is a pretty good fantasy series. It's the kind of series that's written with so much care and detail in its prose that, at one point, several chapters after a certain character's death, the prose goes on a tangent about how that character would store salt in their naval for their breakfasts. I can't recommend it enough

    I agree, I liked Narnia as a child and was a big fan of Harry Potter and GOT as a teenager but most fantasy series just re-hash the same tired tropes.
