Is it normal that i think periods are stupid?

Women shouldn't have to bleed and just be generally uncomfortable just because they're not carrying a baby. It's just moronic and a faulty biological trait. Pregnancy is hard enough for many women (unless you're like Michelle Duggar and have a addiction to it). Am I alone in thinking this?

If I had my way and it were possible, I'd re-code our DNA so we would never go through PMS and periods again.

Let's explore the difference between estrous and menstruation.

Most placental mammals experience estrous cycles, a defined period of fertility. Afterwards, the endometrial lining of the uterus is reabsorbed into the body rather than being shed.

A very small number of animals (Humans and some primates) experience menstrual cycles instead, where the endometrial lining is shed at the end of the reproductive cycle, causing blood flow.

There is some debate that perhaps shedding the endometrial lining is of less cost than continuously maintaining it. The important thing to note, however, is that mammals which have an estrous cycle are ONLY sexually receptive at certain times. Animals that don't have one, like us, are sexually receptive all the time; we will copulate at any time of the month. I bet men would be pretty upset if we were only sexually receptive for 3 days every 6 months, or some other low number like that. So there is at least one benefit of menstuation: constant sex.

That's true, but if we had an estrous cycle, wouldn't that mean you could only conceive on those certain dates?

Surely you'd still be able to have sex in between those times (:

'receptive'....meaning the female will only accept a male at that time and a male will usually only be attracted to her at that time too. That's why we don't see animals fucking for sheer pleasure right and left.

But if you have ever been around a female animal in heat, you could imagine society would not fare well if women were like that and men lost their minds completely too. Men would be fighting to the death and pissing on things while women rubbed their crotch on everything that moved. Both sexes completely under a spell of hormones and stupidity 1000000000x that of a human teenager. No.

Don't think that men don't reap the "reward" of being around a woman in the throes of PMS, you simply need to be spotted (haha, see what I did there?) to become a target.

One option is a form of birth control that essentially eliminates the whole egg shedding procedure. My current paramour has an extremely light period perhaps once a year. I don't know what the name of the birth control she uses happens to be, but I don't believe it's anything all that special. If there's interest I will inquire of her what it is.

I'd totally take those BUT I don't trust those extreme methods. I try to eat healthy and exercise.... I don't know what those hormones could do to my health.

It hasn't seemed to cause her any ill effects. In fact, if anything she has the sex drive of college frat boy, I am truly a blessed being.

Ugh, I hate my period SO. MUCH.

I just got done having one of the worst ones I've ever had. My mood swings, hot flashes, and anxiety were so severe that I thought I was either coming down with a House MD level illness or straight up losing my mind.

Then I woke up today and I suddenly felt normal again.

    Fuck the menstrual cycle.

So you'd rather just sit there with rotting eggs and a smelly vagina until you give birth to a deformed graul someday?

Periods aren't that bad usually. The average period is superior to completely losing your senses while in heat where you end up pregnant by anything that lives nearby every few months for your whole life span.

Don't the majority of mammals go through that?
So you are saying that evolution is all wrong, but you have a better way? Yeah, OK. When you've won a Nobel Prize (for comedy?), perhaps folks won't think you are a such nut job.

yes but humans are more advanced than other mammals and with our technology we should have figured out a way to prevent period discomfort a long time ago.

Actually, I've read studies that point pretty conclusively to all the PMS and other menstrual issues that western women experience as a learned response.
Most women in the poor third world cultures do not experience PMS or other menstrual issues.
Girls, according to this, your mothers taught you and their mothers taught them this behavior. You should all thank them for your discomfort.
