Is it normal that i think my subconscious is smarter than my conscious mind?

I'm not sure how to explain this but I think that my subconscious mind is much more intelligent than my conscious self.

For example, if I don't think about something at all, then I am nearly guaranteed to do better than if I actually think about it. This applies to tests, sports, everything.

  • Just because I'm smarter than my conscious self doesn't mean he has the upper hand.

But yes, I'd say it's normal. Some of the most brilliant ideas I've ever had were given to me when I was asleep or just waking up.

Actually you're quite true. Our brains are very efficient machines. We can process large amounts of information quite rapidly.

They did this study recently where they had two groups of people. One of them had 15 minutes to look over these descriptions of 3 different cars. No info about make or model, just general information about the cars specs.

The other group had only a minute or so to look over the lists.

Then they were all asked to choose the best car from the list. The ones who had less time to look at the specs and had to make more of a snap decision chose the best car far more often than the people who had time to think about it. Overthinking can really do you in.
Or there was the professor who tried to get his advanced physics students to calculate the trajectory of a thrown ball given some of the info. None of them could do it. He brings in a 5 year old kid and just tosses the ball back and forth. Our brains do those complex calculations without us even being aware of it happening.

    • Hmmm it's a neat concept but I'm rather worried about the implications of it.

People are generally judged by their decisions and if the subconscious mind, something that we can influence but not wholly control, is the more powerful side of our mind, then does that say something about free will? Or am I just finding connections that aren't there?

I can't agree, I'm book smart. My subconscious is about as idiotic as they come.

Yes and some people lack talking and social skills so can not properly communicate thought and feeling but they can write it on paper.
