Is it normal that i think it's generally fine to drive after one drink?

I know people who can drive just fine after a single drink. But a lot of websites say "0.00 is the only safe limit." I don't agree with that, I think it's overkill. Is this normal?

Well if you wanna play safe, then don't drink and drive at all.

I know alcoholics who would be dangerous drivers if they didn't have a drink in them.

Well it depends on several factors. How well do you know yourself and how well can you handle yourself on a glass or two of alcohol. Are you an experienced drinker or still somewhat novice. Are you driving just in the neighborhood to your home or are you going on highways or expressway or some route thay is unfamiliar to you

The real issue is not so much if you can drive after a glass of alcohol. The problem is what happens if something unusual happens like what if you need to quickly veer to the side to avoid a collision or what if you need to stop quickly. A split second could make a big difference in these scenarios and alcohol could affect your judgment or ability to react in time.

Out of reapect for other drivers on the road, its better to not drink at all even if you could handle it without any problem.

Also, doesn't it make a difference if the drink is over the course of one hour?

I think if anyone has to reaction time test themselves to see if one drink affects their driving judgment, then it would just be easier to not drink at all. Why put so much effort into worrying about something like that when we all know the right thing to do is just don't drink and drive. If you're going to drink, then let yourself get as drunk as you want and do not drive. Otherwise, do not drink if you are going to be operating a vehicle of any kind. Pretty simple concept there.

Alcohol stays in the system a while. For example even the next morning people often feel a bit groggy even if they did not have that much to drink.

Why did you vote that what I think is normal when you clearly don't agree?
You think that it is a clear cut rule that people should never drink and drive. I don't think it is so clear cut when the person has only had one drink. Plus other factors like weight, driving experience, gender, etc. have an affect as well.
And to clarify, when I said "I'll wait a little while before I drive after I drink," I mean I'll wait for several years, until I am a good enough driver that even slight impairment won't make my driving bad.

That's why I intend to reaction time tests on several occasions when I drink. Like, have someone drop a ruler and see if one drink over one hour affects the time it takes me to catch it. And since I'm not a very experienced drinker or driver I intend to wait a little while before I drive after one drink. Which is why I did not ask about myself, I asked about people in general. Please do not assume that I am asking about myself when I don't specifically say that I am. Right now I am asking about most people.
