Is it normal that i think it looks really weird for a girl to shave her pits?

It's like I expect hair to be there and when its not, it makes me do a double-take, even though almost all girls shave their pits... is that weird? Same with pubes.

      Girls don't need to look any certain way to pander to your misogynist tastes.

      Why? Why do we *need* to? Because it looks better. Guys don't shave, and many women in other countries don't either. It's a very American sort of thing.

      Because it's "cleaner"? That's a commonly perpetuated myth, and if it was so disgusting that people can't stand to look at it or even think about it I'm pretty sure men would be shaving their pits too.

      It all comes down to personal aesthetics, and in the US at least we're bombarded with the images of hairless women and made to see that as the "ideal" of beauty. Ever seen Venus of Willendorf? That used to be the ideal standard of beauty. It's all just trends, and people are easily influenced.

      I'd actually never reflected on how funny it is that guys will say body hair is a dealbreaker or gross or unsanitary when dealing with a woman they're interested in... well you seem pretty happy with yourself all covered in it. Ooh that's gonna amuse me for a minute.

        Just wondering in which countries women don't shave, because I know in Europe and Asia they do as far as I've seen and I've lived in several places in the world.

          Hmm, well I'm basing this on things I've read more than things I've actually seen myself, I know it's pretty commonly said that French women don't shave under their arms, I'm sure the same is true for a lot of third world places for different reasons... I'd honestly have to do some research to figure out what shaving habits are common of what places. ^^;

          I just think it's ridiculous that we're all soo against something as natural as body hair. If it was that disgusting men would be shaving too.

            Maybe it's because women naturally have less hair then men so to be more feminine they wanna have even less hair? ...since women have been getting more feminine (in behaviour and looks) the last fifty years. Read something about that I think.

        I'm English though, haha. And it's true, most females want to shave for obvious reasons. It's the worst thing in the world being hairy on your period, you feel even more unclean and you know you can't do anything about it until your period ends, especially if you have really bad pains. Also, in the summer you shave even more because armpit and pubic hair (especially for me because it grows back so quickly) make a huge contribution to sweat. Shaving is not necessarily needed but for most people it's better...
