A lot of people say it's a choice but I feel like it's meant to help us from having too many people. Like in the wild when a species gets over populated they start to die off because there isn't enough food or something. It just seems like being gay is better than something killing us all off and the number of gay people has risen a lot and it is more common than it was a long time ago and the population of people recently reached 7 billion and imagine how high that number would be if everyone was straight. Sorry if this was kind of confusing and didn't make sense or I got some stuff wrong.

    I think in the majority of cases homosexuality isn't a choice. But I don't support the notion that it's some evolutionary development to help control our population, nor do I think it's particularly effective at controlling the population.

    In my opinion, the most effective (and ethically/morally sound) way of reducing the global birth rate is through contraception, sex education and the improvement of living standards in the poorest areas.

    I'm also of the opinion that homosexuality is only more common now because it is more widely accepted, therefore more people openly declare themselves homosexual. I doubt there's been an actual increase in LGBT people, only an increase in people openly LGBT.

    Well it is not doing a good job, there are way too many people. Earth should only have 100,000 people and I should get to pick them all and be their king.

          Well I'm not gay either... although I would be gay for a crown and a fabulous robe.

          The title of Duke is insulting to me. I'd rather be a common peasant throwing rocks at the King's knights and running away giggling to my crap hut.

    It's kind of demeaning to gay people to refer to their love as "population control."

    The rate of gay people hasn't increased over the years. Being gay has always existed. It's just nowadays we're not demonizing it as much.

      I'm not trying to sound demeaning with this FocoUS. I'm a lesbian myself and some of my gay friends feel the same as me when I've brought it up I just personally feel that it's a possible reason. I know it's always been around but it makes sense that the numbers haven't increased over the years I guess it just seemed like it with people being more okay with it.

        Well I just ate my words. I guess I'll try to look at biology. It seems when animals have a natural population control it just seems to be less females are born.

    Species just multiply until a limiting factor prevents them from doing so, which is almost always food. An evolutionary measure cannot possibly be in place to prevent overpopulation because it cannot be passed on to offspring, because obviously the animal with the genetic code to not reproduce, won't reproduce.

    It's an interesting, thought. Although I think some people would resent having to sleep with their own gender when they're not attracted to them.

    I'd go the "free contraception" route myself.

        I've probably misunderstood. I thought you were thinking of some drug or injection that made everyone gay. Actually, I think the U.S. army has a gas that does it that they planned to use against Iraqis. Probably propaganda, though. I didn't research it so don't take this as fact.
