Is it normal that i think guys generally have a better taste in music than girls?

I've noticed that girls tend to only scratch the surface of the music industry and only listen to the most mainstream stuff out there. Guys are generally more likely to actually dig deeper into the music industry and find new stuff.

You must spend a lot more time with guys than you do with women.

It doesn't revolve entirely on genders. There's some dudes who listen to mainstream garbage. I listen to metal, goth, international music (Spanish, and Romanian), and alt. rock/metal to name a few genres. I'm a girl to boot! It's about the person, not the gender

I think it depends on the person.

If that's really your experience then you need to ask yourself - why am I only hanging around with people who have shit taste in music? Trust me, gender does not factor into music taste. It's the kind of people you're hanging out with.

OP sounds like a whiny hipstery type.

      Pretentious as fuck.

I particularly like the zero examples given.

Yep, probably either one of those "i was born in the wrong generation!" types who listens to pop from other decades but considers it "classics". Or, one of those people who hates on popular bands while listening to shitty ass heavy metal, alt rock, EDM or some other "unusual" genre because they feel it makes them special. (Not hating on those genres at all, but as long as were being pretentious some of their music isn't that great either, lol)

Agreed, probably basing this on the two girls he knows.

I wrote something else without reading the title and based it off of a different post (possibly by same OP?) with an equally stupid view.

Though until this OP responds with the brilliant argument of "no, I are genius you be stoopud", I'll give them the benefit of the doubt and guess they aren't a troll.

Though that really isn't much of an improvement there...

It depends on the person. Some could like metal, some screamo, some pop, some folk, etc. Same for men. But for me? Personally, I do think that the majority of men have better tastes in music than the majority of women do.

I’ve actually had the opposite experience. Women turned me on to some of my best music.

  • Gender based observations are often so flavored by our own conscious and subconscious biases it's impossible to give, get, or even imagine a truly objective perspective. I'm female and have extensively eclectic tastes in music to the point wherein genre labels are pointless to me. If it moves me physically, emotionally, or otherwise, I'm into it, and if not, meh. Some poor souls just need a little love and understanding to open their minds to other possibilities. I really don't see the point in feeding threads of thought that serve to widen the gender gap. Also, what's with all of the animosity? Christ on a crutch, people, can't you carry on a simple conversation without acting like prepubescent antagonists (AKA bullies)??

No, most music kind of sucks in general. The music industry has to cater to the mob and their same, but not too different mentality, in order to sell music. So you end up with a lot of cookie-cutter songs with small differences so they can appeal to as many people as possible. Occasionally something deeper or vastly different pops up, but it's not the norm. This goes with pretty much all genres of music.

Also I'm biased to 90s music maybe because I grew up then, but it seemed like a much more creative and experimental era of music compared to what came after or what was before it. I even used to appreciate rap back then and now it just feels like most rappers are punks or wannabe gangsters because that makes them more appealing to their listeners I guess.

It depends on the person honestly, because preferences are all different

I learned that in my teens when listening to my peers discuss heavy metal.
The guys would be talking about Slayer, anthrax, Metallica, Testament, Motorhead...

Meanwhile the "metal chicks" would be mentioning bands like Skid Row, Bon Jovi, Stryper, Poison... basically the poser metal bands.

I mean Bon Jovi fuckin sucks. He was the "Kid Rock" of the 80's.

    Jeeze

But for kids today, you do have it worse today than we did. NOTHING sucks worse than the posers you guys have to suffer. I mean Nickelback? Black veil brides?

We also have to consider taste here. I once met a guy who told me how it was imperative that I immediately listen to a Slayer album, and then try Metallica - and I disliked them both deeply. I personally found it overly edgy and insincere.

That doesn't mean that those bands are bad, I just don't find it to my taste. Just as it would be arrogant for me to talk about how your music is shit, its pretty rude of you to call people posers because they don't share your opinions.
