Is it normal that i think current political correctness needs to die in a fire?

I know political correctness was intended to protect the offended crowd, but now it seems like I can't say anything without setting off the activists online. If I say that blacks/gays/any non-white minority aren't superior to everyone else, I'm automatically offensive, and I'm not even white.

    Over exaggerating a little?

Yes, sometimes people get offended by strange things. Big deal. You're not stopped from having a voice, and they're not stopped from getting offended if they want.

Sometimes it's how you say it, not
what you actually say. It really doesn't hurt to put your brain into gear before you take your mouth on the road.

I Think that 'yes' we need Political Correctness to a level, but i feel that lately its been getting quite out of hand and just retarded in some cases.
    eg -

I live in South Australia and there is a place/island (Granite Island) where 'Fairy Penguins' live and are protected. Political Correctness has changed the name "Fairy Penguin" to "Little Penguin" becuase it claims that it is offending gay people.

Not sure about you guys, but i think this has just gone too far.

How is it ironic? I think the use of 'retarded' is pretty appropriate.

It's not like we can sit here and act like racism and other various forms of prejudice don't exist. But I think I'll agree with RapidRat when I say sometimes it does go too far.

Free speech is a right and rights come with responsibilities and when we do not exercise our rights responsibly, there will be repercussions, however, I highly doubt "fairy penguins" had anything to do with gay people to begin with. It's like some people are looking for things to be offended by and the majority of folks don't care about Political Correctness THAT much. I think it's just a handful of assholes that feel the need to empower themselves.

People don't get offended when you don't say they're superior. They get offended when you say they're inferior.

I think you have a point.

If people want to have the "right to not be offended" they should move to Singapore.

Here in the US, we have the freedom to say what we want without being silenced. If people dislike that... too flippin' bad.

What I personally dislike though is that I find many people on the "politically correct" side who also seem to think the 1A extends to forcing others to listen to them.

it doesn't. No one has to listen to you. And no radio station or network is obliged to transmit you.

But again some seem to think so

I take your point but "the offended crowd"? Isn't that goading? It's like calling you "the happy bigots". Meet in the middle and have a chat. Discover your similarities.

Completely agree OP. The irony is cities that boast their diversity and politically correct bullshit tend to be the most socially and culturally run down.

People *ARE DIFFERENT*! Understanding each other is *NOT A DUTY* but a *CHOICE*! Im hispanic and for sure there's times when I say fuck it I don't feel comfortable, don't want to be around these <insert race> people. That tends to happen frequently with "whites", but also with all other races. That "whites" can't socially express these natural feelings is social hipocresy that thrives on fear. I'd much rather have someone in a group express their disintrest than having to waste my time with him/her. The politically correct mindset permeates racism by insinuating that minorities need social affirmative action which is bullshit.

Proof that race preferences are natural are all around us. People stick with their own kind for the most part. This is most visible when you look at groups of friends at bars, clubs, group-trips, etc... groups tend to be homogenous. As the only minority in the group of friends my wife and I shared a while back I can atest to the fact that building a meaningful relationship is not the same even after years of spending time together. The moment I divorced my (white) wife I lost all these friends- not in an upront way, but as time passed invitations stopped coming. This is in part normal with relationships ofcourse, but I attribute a portion of it to the social element. My take? I enjoy all people so I won't shelter myself amongst my own, but I understand people who choose their race. It makes perfect sense in a time when such an admission is called "racism".

While I agree political correctness has gone too far, Ive never been told to declare that minorities are a superior race, thats just kinda silly.

Equality in the eyes of the law is important, and the real reason we have civil rights movements all over the place.

And its the nice thing to do to be respectful of one another.

BUT, anything you say could offend someone, and I promise you that some things you do or say are highly offensive to certain groups. So since there is no real right or wrong here, isnt it better to do and say whatever the fuck you want, be true to your own self without influence from outside and let the chips fall where they may? No point in stifling yourself for the sake of the status quo.

Saying the internet isn't PC is all well and good but most people don't live in the Internet. They live in the real world where things like a group of parents were told by their local council that they needed a health and safety assessment and license to have an Easter egg hunt for a few kids. Political correctness is bollocks

The internet is nowhere near PC, and politicians and radio people need to be PC.
