College is like everything else in life. You get out what you put in. If you spend your time there chasing skirt and smoking dope, you’ll graduate a horny pothead. If you study and interact with others on an intellectual level, you just may learn something which no one can ever take away from you.
I totally agree. Colleges are so self-important, but their qualifications are often useless. It does depend what career you're looking to go into though. Some industries don't really care about whether you have a college degree once you have experience. It can be difficult to get that experience in the first place without a degree admittedly, but not impossible. So you should research first if your career is one of those, before deciding whether college is a must.
With other careers though, the degree is a prerequisite, so you have to go to college. However colleges then exploit that fact to overcharge for their courses. They also don't allow you to just take the final exam without purchasing the course, so you can't decide to self-study the material and take the exam yourself without needing the college. This greedy corporate move really shows that they don't care about helping anyone gain employment or encouraging them to get educated, they care only about money.
And then for their courses that don't actually lead to employment (at least for the majority of graduates), they do use bullshit marketing alright about self-improvement and growth to sucker people into attending them. So yeah, I don't like colleges.
Well you have a point but it depends because college itself could be a good investment if you get it right
Agreed 100%. Many people have too many other focuses in college other than learning
Yeah you've made your belief quite clear. I suspect many people who believe this picked one of those useless majors that don't lead to career because those DO exist, got distracted by something other than classes/studying during college or didn't go and say it's a waste of time without really knowing if it is or Not for multiple resons
Depends solely what your degree/major is.
If you chose a career that's bloated or not that useful you chose wrong, not the institutions fault.
It's the goverements fault for making tuition so damn high because when the goverment pays for something the college has every incentive to raise the price.
If I need a bridge to be constructed I want certified engineers on site. If I want surgery I assume that the doctor is 110% qualified.
College is important. Is it important for ALL jobs? HELL NO! Do college education lead to more profitable career? Sometimes, it honestly depends on WHAT you are majoring in.
Yep your so right it's a waste of time and money!! my opinion if you went to a trade school and in 4 years you be a master in it but instead, you took stupid class for a degree and can't get fucking job ? why according to society a college degree you can go anywhere, it's an endless opportunity? Fuck that shit get a freaking trade not a dam computer job fucking pansies, just saying from hard rock dude
If it weren't for the people who do the computer jobs you wouldn't be on this site enjoying it.
I know my generation built computers and invented internet so yea that's the problem college grads want big salaries with no work experience just because I got degree good you got degree good I glad and also the college experience (party sex and rock an roll) too but those summer you were out of college for 4 years what you do? just saying from hard rock
It depends on what you want to do with your future. I want to own my own preschool, but to do that I'll need at least a Bachelor's, but I want a Master's. But I also just love learning in general, and so far I've paid very little for my education so far due to growing up poor as heck lol.
There are many jobs that do not require too much schooling. Associates Degrees are under appreciated, but there's SO many well paying jobs you can get with that kind of degree, and you don't have to go to a university to obtain one.
I'd say that it's pretty normal. Not everyone want's to do that kind of thing, and I honestly really respect that
College isnt for everyone. If you are getting a degree for a specific purpose it's good. Otherwise you're better off getting a trade. Depends on what you wanna do. When my son gets of age I plan on buying him a zeroturn mower and trailer and forcing him to mow lawns and he gets to keep all the money which will amount to around $1500 a week. Im hoping this will teach him to not be a pussy and give him work ethic and the self esteem to be able to figure out how to make that type of money in other trades.
I think it's according to what you do while you're there and where it leads you to in furthering education more or career. I guess I'll add in it's often Not enough unless you're training for a specific field that you're skilled and certified etc to do after college and I think if you make the most of college a good choice is a masters or beyond unless you were in a trade specific program in college that ended there.
