Is it normal that i still feel guilt over things i did as a young child?

When I was really young, I did a lot of insane things that I would never dream of doing now like biting people, destroying things, yelling, screaming, crying, insulting people, etc. Now though, I wouldn't dream of doing anything even remotely bad, but lately I've been feeling guilty about how horrible I acted when I was a little kid. I know that little kids are generally assholes and that I'm a mature, nice person now, but I still feel really bad about it. Is this normal? Would you like to share the worst thing you did as a kid?

You have to forgive yourself. I did some bad things and hated myself for it for quite awhile until recently. I prayed, if that helps.

I did the "usual" kid stuff like, TPing a yard, threw a couple eggs, ding dong ditch it, etc. But the one thing I still feel bad about is taking a running lawn sprinkler from a yard and putting it into their car parked in the street. It was an older crappy car, but still, feel bad about it.

Aha! You are an asshole, even more vile than I am. The IIN community now knows of your malevolent nature and can make sense of the criminal elements of your mind.

I once put sunscreen on my cat just for fun... I think my cat still may have a grudge against me...

I also used to sabotage peoples powdered items in their kitchen (ie coffee, flour, sugar) by pouring vanilla extract into it and then mixing it up.

Oh wait. I still do that -'.'-

No one likes a burned pussy!! Is it really sabotage if your only adding flavor. A little vanilla in the coffee actually doesn't sound too bad.

I think the worst thing I did as a kid was light a fire beneath my parents' bed when they were away..

    Oh wait.. wait..

When my brother had a really bad ear infection and I slapped the earbud into his eardrum and he was rushed to hospital

    Oh.. wait.. wait..

When I pushed my other brother out through a window because he managed to climb the cushions all the way to the top and I couldn't..and he ended up getting 72 stitches around his head..

    Oh.. wait...

That time I.. you know what.. nevermind :)

I was an angel child and quite shy. I saved all my rebellion and mischief for those angsty adolescent years. I only really did one thing I regret. I smashed my friend's entire CD collection. I was pretty badly betrayed, but still... I ended up paying for a LOT of new CDs. It took all the money I'd earned the entire summer. I never did get an apology for what that person did... I have to admit though, at the time, it felt really good just chucking each disc at the floor. I had so much adrenaline that every one splintered into a million pieces and dented the floor. I got a few cuts. It was a real soap opera moment. How! *smash* Could! *smash* You! *smash* *smash*

I think the worst thing I did as a kid was to put a rattlesnake I'd caught in our mail box, until I could come back and get it.
Unfortunately, my mom came home in that time and went to check the mail. She was convinced that I was trying to kill her, but I swear, it never occurred to me. Hey, it was just a convenient place to keep the damn thing until I could put it in a cage. Really.

  • I could name a few things I did as a kid. Throwing rocks at houses, pulling chairs out from people sitting down so they would fall, pissing on unsuspecting people from atop the tree fort, lighting outhouses on fire, threatening other kids, going around the neighborhood at night causing mischief, and vandalizing random property

I made pipe bombs and explosives when I was a kid. Being a precocious 12 year old, I knew that safety was a primary concern. So, I read college chemistry books on the topic to gain a deep understanding of the subject. I always detonated bombs in trenches to prevent schrapnel from causing damage. It was fun to be a mad scientist.

It's normal but it's your childhood, man. Cut yourself some slack. As long as you didn't end up taken away from your parents/guardians/caregivers I'd say you didn't fuck up too badly.

As for my worst thing I did as a kid...

Shit. Where do I start? Alongside a friend, I threw rocks at my neighbour's car. There was this one rock that was big enough to get the car alarm started. Bear in mind that I was about four to six at the time. My friend got the blame because he started crying and I was seen as "just an innocent little girl".

It didn't end up being a huge commotion. The car was unharmed but it did freak out the owner a little.

I never really did things like biting, hitting, screaming, etc. because it wouldn't be tolerated in my household. I would've had my ass whooped!

I still did really stupid things. When I was a little shit, I got bored one time and started throwing rocks at cars. Looking back, I feel horrible about it.
The worst thing probably was when I was 14-15, I was asked to pull the truck in front of the garage. I had little to no driving experience. I pulled it up, but somehow mistook the gas for the brake, ran the truck into the garage, nearly ran over my mom, and fucked shit up. It was an accident, but I still feel like an idiot.

When I was 13 some friends and I had the brainiac idea of releasing the brakes on about 12 cattle train carriages so we could jump from carriage to carriage just like in the cowboy movies.

What we didn't think about was how to stop the carriages before they went across the main highway. Oops. Boys will be boys.

It was fun though and we did jump from carriage to carriage just like in the cowboy films.

p.s. I was also cruel to insects.
Sorry to all the ants and grasshoppers out there.

I used to steal things. Sometimes it was from stores and other times it was from a teacher or another kid who bullied me. I can recall getting caught a few times but I didn't get majorly punished for any of it for some reason.

I think this is totally normal. If I could I would go back and kick my own ass for some of the stupid things that I did. However At the same time I don't regret it because in the end everything I've done and experienced has made me who I am today. I look back at some of those things as a learning experience.
