Is it normal that i pretend to like football for my bf?

My boyfriend is a football fan and it is football season. I have literally 0 interest in football but he is a huge fan. I picked a team to be a fan of (from my hometown) and I watch games with him. Call it weird, but I kind of cold-read him to figure out how to respond to his football talk and I have done a generally decent job of pretending to get the gist of the technical shit. I even downloaded an app for my team to follow them - I mean, it does all of the work for me. I will even have heated arguments/discussions with him about teams we like/hate. I have been doing this since the beginning of the season.

So far it is going pretty well. Quite frankly, it doesn't hurt me or piss me off but I wonder if it is normal to fake this sort of interest for the sake of taking part in someone's hobby...?

    My fiance loves football, too. I have no interest, and I've never faked it. That's insulting to him, if I'm not genuine. I'll watch it with him, I'll ask about the game if I'm not there, I'll be excited if his teams are doing well, purely because he enjoys it. I don't need to cheapen things by being dishonest.

    I don't think anyone interesting would be very interested in dating an exact replica of themselves that likes all the same things, says all the same things, and does all the same things. You would have nothing to teach eachother and nothing to offer one another...good dating is about expanding your horizons and trying new shit.

    Anyways, have fun...down the line...knowing your boyfriend fell for someone who has nothing to do with you. It's like he's cheating on you with the person you're pretending to be.

    I don't like football but he knows and doesn't care. He watches stuff I like that he isn't into; it's just a good relationship to do nice things for each other. I see no reason to fake this though.

    It's normal, but sooner or later the truth comes out.

    However, if you're okay with living a lie, then eventually it'll become the truth and you'll actually enjoy football just as much as him.

    Personally, I cannot see the enjoyment in watching a bunch of primitive, sweaty meatheads kick a rubber ball up and down a muddy field.

    Besides, the only fun part of football is bashing the other players up and pretending it was an accident, not the actual game. I can't enjoy sport without delivering a few hard blows.
