Is it normal that i'm uncomfortable with my friend having sex for money?

My best friend has recently started having sex with guys for money; only once a week or month. I've grown up with her; we went to primary and high school together, and I don't really know how to feel.

She's responsible enough to not get into danger, and is $20k in debt. From her point of view it's just something that can help pay the bills, but I'm not sure.

Is it selfish of me to feel like this is a bad idea?

Everyone trades sex for something if they admit it to themself or not.

Psychologically, she's going to do more damage to herself than is worth it for just $20k. It's a rare kind of person who can sell sex and not be affected at all. She may be that kind of person but chances are she's not.

Also, does she ever plan on having a relationship? I know plenty of men who would be uncomfortable with their beloved having had a thousand men sleep with them for money.

      This.

In the end, it will cost her more than she is making.

once a week or once a month? a thousand men would take over 19 years if she had sex once a week.

If she enjoys it and is being safe and responsible, who are you to judge? Why does it bother you anyway? Because she's not innocent anymore? Tough luck, no one gets to keep that part of them forever.

Hell, I would love to take up a job stripping if it weren't for the fact that I would be judged hardcore for it and probably make my family hate me. XD (And I'd have to learn to sexy dance D: lol)

There are a lot of misconceptions out there about sex workers as desperate people who hate what they do but need to. I've seen quite a few documentaries that would suggest a LOT of sex workers honestly enjoy their jobs. I remember a really good article about a girl who did some prostitution on the side to pay her way through college. She said guys typically asked for "the girlfriend treatment" and it made her feel good to do it, because these were mostly just kind but lonely people looking for some human contact, rather than the creepy pervs you would probably expect.

      It is not a misconception.

I find it hard to believe that's the experience of the majority of prostitutes. I believe that for most people sex isn't a commodity to be bought and sold. The prostitutes who come forward to talk about their job aren't going to be the ones who feel ashamed about it or forced into it or regretful of it. There's just no accurate, reliable way of measuring how many women who do that sort of work are forced into it or enjoy it.

However, if you can point me to some articles that you reckon will convince me otherwise, please do so :)

Honestly I don't see that much of a point in bothering. IIN seems to be slowly overtaken by more and more christian and conservative opinions. I feel no need to argue with a bunch of innocents who think sex workers are sad, destitute whatever the fuck these people are thinking.

I came here and put so much time (and more recently) money into the site because it was a place to get advice free of judgement, but people are slowly ruining that aspect of this place.

i don't get prostitution and alcohol. okay. alcohol kills people. ruins people's lives. people get the shit kicked out of them because of alcohol. woman get raped because of alcohol. i've often asked why its legal. the answer i almost always get is that they tried to get rid of alcohol and they couldn't get rid of alcohol. very few actually say its the drug of choice. anyways, they can't get rid of prostitution, so why don't they legalize prostitution on the same grounds as alcohol?

Fair enough. I'm not judging your opinion or judging prostitutes though, in case you thought I was. I'm not really even searching for an argument, just wanting to learn about why you hold your opinion. The more you know :P

I agree that this place is less free from judgement than it once was, and that that is a bad thing. But I also think it is a bad thing if people cannot relatively politely ask questions about each others opinions for fear of being called out as "judgmental".

Without the liberty of tone of voice it can be hard to tell who falls into which camp, the people who are insulting and intolerant and the people who are tolerant and reserved despite disagreeing. I like to think at least some people fall into the second group even if it can be hard to tell because of the way we speak.

Ooh aren't you so clever. Let's comment on ONE part of what someone said and ignore the rest of it, yes! :D

Stripping is stripping and sex work is sex work. I see nothing wrong with either.

People need to get off their fucking high horses and stop being so judgemental.
