Is it normal that i'm too self aware to be in a relationship

I'm in my early 20s, female and I've never been in a relationship. opportunities have presented themselves but I am too self aware to get into a relationship like what everyone else does. I feel because of depression I have a different perception on reality and it kills me to be called beautiful but still go to bed alone every night because I can't get over my self. IIN?

I think I was like you when I was younger. And by younger I mean 3 years ago. I was convinced I was going to die alone and a virgin and I had accepted it, till I met my current boyfriend who made me feel truly beautiful for the first time(met is a loose term, I have known him for 4 years but we started hanging out, started to do a while friends with benefits and have been together for 2 years and some change).

You just need to find that one person you can be yourself with -- after that your whole world will open up.

There are varying levels of commitment when it comes to relationships. I myself like to stay fairly emotionally unattached. You should just try dipping your toe in the water, go on a date, it doesn't have to be any more than just sat eating and talking to someone.

Is it being too self-aware or depression that prevents you from being in a relationship?

Your self-awareness can change depending on depression. I'd say, start by helping yourself overcome depression and gain a new outlook on yourself. Also, there is no need to be in a rush.

The same thing happens to me but I am not depressed. I feel I would not be able to keep up with a relationship because it never feels "real" for me. The thought of that "artifice" and "illusion" literally suffocates my throat and chokes me whenever I think of being in a relationship. It hurts.

By the way, that doesn't mean you can't enjoy sex.
