Is it normal that i'm suddenly having anxiety for a short period of time?

I've had a couple of phobias ever since I can remember. However starting maybe a month or two ago I've been having anxiety just like being exposed to a phobia when there's nothing to trigger it. It comes on suddenly like my heart is racing and I feel like I could pass out or just cry for hours but subsides within a half an hour or so. It's almost as if I'm being exposed to one of my phobias but I can't get away from it. Am I going totally crazy? Is this normal for someone who has phobias or is it something completely different?

That's called a panic attack, unlike regular anxiety that's situational, panic attacks can happen randomly. I'd suggest talking to a professional for advice on what to do, my knowledge on the subject is kind of limited.

I looked that up and it makes sense. :( It was sort of hard to figure it out with only my description. Why now? This sucks.

Is there anything that happened around when it started or before that could have triggered it? Doesn't have to be something huge, but something.

Some things come at certain ages too.. I didn't start struggling with mood disorder really badly til I was 19 or 20, and I read that some psychological problems don't pop up til during or after adolescence.

Well I'm 20. I was diagnosed with depression when I was 16. Having my parents know about it only made things worse though so I hide it. My family, on both sides, have a long line of depression and anxiety. I never knew about panic attacks though.

I guess now that you mention it, this fall I'm starting college for the first time. I've been panicked about how I'm going to pay for it because I don't know how much FAFSA will cover and I'm a jobless POS. :<

This can maybe also be related to stress.

This happened to me too and I know how horrible it is. It's not normal. For me horrible experiences can trigger the anxiety attacks for up to a year even. They get better over time though.
