Is it normal that i'm forced to attend bible study after a broken agreement?

*Notice 03/26/15, I've thankfully been allowed to take the lowest dosage of a medicine for panic attacks called Paroxetine thanks to reasoning from my doctor*

At first I was only made by my parents to go to church, and I do. Now they're randomly making me go to bible study even though we had agreed that I would only have to pick a service and go to church. I have severe panic attacks so having gotten a job and also going to church should make them happy. I'd like to add that I watch Christian television (Life Today etc.) sometimes, so I would get more teaching from watching that than freaking out at a bible study. Also some people I'm sure would ask why I can't say no. I just turned 19 and I would either get my laptop or phone taken away, and maybe beaten (mildy, not enough to call the police obviously) if I flat out refused.

I'm completely confused here. Do you watch christian TV by choice or are you made to? Do you go to church voluntarily or not? Are you complaining about going to bible studies?
And what 19 year old lets ANYONE beat them (even mildly) without fighting back?

    • I watch it at home by choice. By "beaten" I mean being hit with a broom or getting my arms or thigh slapped. If I ever tried fighting back I'm sure I'd get actually beaten without a "mildly" because they believe in that. And yes I'm complaining about having to go to bible study.

        Then leave.
You are 19 years old, an adult in most places. No one should lay a hand on you without your permission, but to allow it without fighting back makes no sense.
These do not seem like parents, the seem more like torturers; you need to get out.

Then save up as much as you can. If you're worried that your parents will take it, put it in a bank. Then don't spend money on anything you don't have to. Do you still depend on them for food, do they make you pay rent? If you're still eating their food and not paying rent, it might be faster to save up, but either way, whenever you have anything extra, don't use it, even if its just a dollar. It all adds up. Good luck.

Do you take medicine for your panic attacks? That might help a lot.

    • I'm not allowed to take real medicine because of the side effects. I tried some natural remedies like chamomile and gava or something tablets but they didn't work. I had a therapist but they didn't really help.

What side effects? And what medicine did you take?

That's what I thought you were going to say. Everything has side effects. You are old enough to get your own medicine. But i can understand if you don't want to take it, to each their own.

I would talk to your parents and see if they will allow you to just go in and talk to a therapist and maybe that can help you with your anxiety. No medicine just talking and they can give you exercises to do that will help you relax and hopefully prevent your panic attacks. Trust me panic attacks aren't something you should just deal with and look pass. Your body is trying to tell you something is wrong and you shouldn't ignore it.

            • I already went to a therapist and it didn't work. I'm old enough, although that doesn't mean my parents would let me and I have my permit but I still need a license.

Their house, their rules. If you don't like it, you should move out. Wait until you've saved up enough money or see if you could stay with a friend or a relative.

Wow. My parents love and respect me regardless of my religious preference. Tell them they should practice what they preach.

You won't ever get logic or any rationality out of a family like this regards how to believe!
I'd suggest watching some modern science shows on how the bible is now looked upon as myth. Generally there is a large sway away from the bible and an even larger diminishing group of god believers these days.

Charles Darwin was born on this day in 1809, we have come a long way in science since then, but his evolution of species remains sound today.

'Learning' about life is not like learning in school (or church - if that's even possible). When you open up your eyes to the natural beauty of all life and our universe it will give you more inspiration than bible studies!

I suppose its lucky you don't have to learn the Qur'an. Muslim girls MUST learn this at 12. Those 1 and 1/2 Billion people must be going to your Christian hell though! A bit sad they were born in the wrong country ;)

If you do want to continue with the bible, at least 'fully' read it. It is full of pain suffering rape and torture, and mostly fear. It is now looked upon as the opposite to our present cultural 'beliefs' in moralistic behavior.

MOST believers now do not follow the bible.
