Is it normal that I'm fine with fake blood or gore scene in a movie but not the real thing?

I like to watch thriller or horror movie, especially the one that have really grotesque deaths or scenes. But I can't handle to see such things in real life, even a tiny sight of blood really scared me.

My friends can't handle these kind of grotesque movies, but they fine when we watching a suicide or accident videos together. They said that it was horrible and that's it meanwhile I couldn't bring myself to open my eyes and watched the video because it's a freaking real life deaths, not just a made up deaths.

Do you think that I'm strange, though?

I read this as, "is it normal to value real lives over fake ones?". Yes, yes if is.

Normal, I guess. I don't fully understand the phenomenon, but I have the very same problem. I think that life's production values might have something to do with it; sometimes, movies are so over the top and surreal in their portrayal of violence that you can't really take them seriously, whereas the way things turn out in real life are always somehow more grotesque than they are in the movies. Plenty of things that are exciting or at least not totally frightening in the movies are harder to deal with in the real world; blood and gore are no exception.

It's pretty normal.. I'm somewhat the same.. I can watch horror movies like Freddy, Jason, Saw, etc where people are being axed and such .. Blood and guts do not bother me in movies or real life. The thing that makes me physically sick is watching in a movie or for real someone that is being beaten, like a fist fight, kicking, type stuff. Like Black Hawk Down and Pulp fiction I went to see in theaters and when it got to the beating parts, I had to run to the restroom ... and puke. I think this reaction comes from where a beating is much more realistic or more likely to happen then being chopped up and such.
*But watching WWF or whatever they call it these day's doesn't bother me.

Don't you feel that constant exposure to fake gore will desensitize you to the real thing, in time?
