Is it normal that i'm embarrassed to let my family know i hate the way i look?

I've always disliked the way I looked, but around the time I hit puberty, I started this "I think I'm great" persona (around my family) because I was embarrassed of my lack of confidence. Now, I admire people who lack confidence. However, I would never dream of telling my family that I have low self-esteem because I put on that persona for so long. To worsen the situation, I know it would break my mom's heart because she thinks her kids are literally the two most beautiful people on earth. To be honest, my brother is pretty ugly too.
