Is it normal that i'm a grown man, married with kids, and i love death metal?

I love heavy metal, especially death metal. I listen to it all the time, in front of my kids (which some people think is weird or inappropriate). Some people think that I'm scaring my kids or desensitizing them to violence and the occult, but I don't really see how that's possible. My kids just ignore it, and sometimes enjoy it (they like Opeth, for example). It seems to me though that when most people grow up, they think they have to stop doing certain things, and listening to heavy metal music is one of them. Why?

What does having a family have to do with your music tastes? You should be allowed to listen to whatever you want!

I was allowed to listen to/read whatever I wanted and I think I'm a better person for it. "Some people" can go fuck themselves.

Pretty normal. The guy next door to me blasts extremely vulgar rap when his kid is in the house. That may be worse, but since rap is "cooler" than death metal, no one gives a shite.

I also like gory horror movies, but my kids are NOT allowed to watch those. Music is just music, and besides, cookie monster vocals are pretty unintelligible anyway, so my kids aren't getting all the lyrics about violence, murder, and satan.

Perhaps people stop doing certain things (like listening to heavy metal) because they don't want their kids to be involved with it. Perhaps a teenage or childhood trauma they encountered is the reason behind the parent not allowing a certain thing into their child's life. If you want my advice let your kids listen to what ever music they enjoy (be it heavy metal or classical). Music is very important in the development of a child (Influences personality, fashion, social life, etc) so be careful what you filter and what you don't.

I'm happy you're exposing them to death metal instead of gaying them up with 1 direction, JB, and all the other stupid crap that's popular. But how old we're your kids when you exposed them to it?

Well you're lucky then because I think from birth that could've gone horribly wrong.

My dad and I have always bonded over metal bands. In fact it's become family tradition to see gwar (I Know they're not really metal but damned fun to see live). Just if you ever go to concerts without your kids and they like metal two, do them a favor buy them CDs not tshirts cus I still don't have a clue who some of my aunts friends bands sound like but I have there shirts which is really frustrating...what does aura noir even sound like? I don't even want to know cus I have there shirt and no idea what they sound like...sorry but yeah pretty normal I'm 20 by the way if your wondering.
