Iin: that i like my fiance's hair cut a certain way?

One thing I find really important/am scared of is seeming or being the "controlling girlfriend".

I love him no matter what, respect that he is a big boy and can make his own decisions and I realize it's just hair so I never get mad at him for what his does with it - except when he doesn't wash it.

The only thing that annoys me is when the hairdressers cut it really short, especially his fringe because it just does not suit him, but its fine that he doesn't like it really long either.

So he says it's fine and totally okay that I tell the hairdresser/stylist how to do his hair - all I want HIM to tell them is what I said above (not too short) but he says he never remembers and wants me to tell them.

But I don't think it's okay and I feel the person doing his hair thinks I'm controlling and ridiculous.

Is this normal or should I butt out?

  • I and many others judge men who care deeply about their appearance. It's feminine behavior. Personally, I've always pretended to be uninterested in how the hairdresser cuts it. I simply tell them to make it look normal.

If your boyfriend is socially aware like I am, and that's the reason he can't bring himself to tell the hairdresser, maybe you can suggest he makes up some story, like that he has to play a character in an indie film, and then have him show a reference photo of the style on his phone.

Or he could just have some mental disability that causes him to legitimately constantly forget. Or he doesn't like your recommendations and knows you don't have the balls to step in and tell the hairdresser, so he tells you you have to do it to avoid starting conflict by straight up denying your request. Nobody here knows the personality of your fiance, so it's up to you to decide which option fits the narrative the best.

Telling him how you like his hair isn't unfair if he takes satisfaction in pleasing you. If he's in some line of work where his appearance plays a big role, like business, he may prioritize having his appearance cater to his work, rather than catering to his fiance.
